What Does It Do?
The Medusa acts as an intelligent bridge between your PHP Hydra Chip and modern in-cab control options. It allows you to change Hydra tune positions using either an Edge CTS3 touchscreen or the Medusa Bluetooth app on a compatible phone or tablet.
When used with an Edge CTS3, the CTS3 recognizes Medusa as a Power Level EAS Controller, giving you a dedicated Power Level gauge on the Gauge Layout screen. From there, you can switch tunes directly from the dash.
Bluetooth control is built into Medusa and does not require an Edge CTS3. If you do not have a CTS3, you can still control your Hydra tune position wirelessly through the Medusa app.
If you prefer to keep your original Hydra switch installed, Medusa supports that too. The system is designed to retain the original switch functionality while adding Bluetooth and CTS3 control options.
Bluetooth Control Included
Medusa can be controlled wirelessly through the Medusa app using a compatible phone or tablet. This Bluetooth functionality works independently and does not require a CTS3 monitor.
The Edge CTS3 integration is optional. Customers who want touchscreen control from the dash can use Medusa with a CTS3, while customers who only want wireless control can use the Bluetooth app.
CTS3 Setup Notes
Using Bluetooth Only?
If you are using Medusa only with the Bluetooth app, an Edge CTS3 is not required. You can install Medusa and control Hydra tune positions from your compatible phone or tablet.
Using Medusa with a CTS3?
Before installing the Medusa and before installing Power Hungry Performance's CTS3 patch, you must update your CTS3 using Edge's official Update Agent / Ignition software.
Edge's Update Agent / Ignition software can be downloaded from Edge's software updates page. Updating the CTS3 first helps ensure that the PHP firmware patch and Medusa integration operate correctly.
Apply PHP CTS3 Patch After Updating
Once your CTS3 has been updated through Edge's software, apply the Power Hungry Performance CTS3 firmware patch. This allows the CTS3 to detect Medusa as a Power Level EAS Controller.
This CTS3 patch is only needed for CTS3 touchscreen integration. Bluetooth app control does not depend on the CTS3.
How It Works
Connect the Hydra Ribbon Cable
Unplug the existing Hydra ribbon cable and plug it into one of the two ribbon ports on the Medusa. Either port works. If you are keeping your original Hydra Switch, connect the included ribbon cable from the switch to the second port on the Medusa.
Pair the Medusa App
For Bluetooth control, open the Medusa app on your compatible phone or tablet and pair it with the Medusa Interface. Once connected, you can change Hydra tune positions wirelessly without needing an Edge CTS3.
Connect the Edge CTS3 EAS Cable
If you are using a CTS3, locate the 6-pin EAS connector on your Edge CTS3 cable. If you have other EAS devices, connect the Medusa/EAS cable to the Edge first, then connect your existing accessories to the pass-through connector. If no other EAS devices are present, plug Medusa's EAS cable directly into the Edge 6-pin port. Then plug the 4-pin end into the Medusa module.
Power On & Configure
Turn the ignition to the "On" position. If connected to a CTS3, the Edge will detect Medusa as a Power Level EAS Controller after the required CTS3 update and PHP patch have been applied. You can then add the Power Level PID gauge to your Gauge Layout screen.
Control Your Tune Position
Change Hydra tune positions from the Medusa Bluetooth app, the Edge CTS3 touchscreen, or the original Hydra Switch if it is installed. Medusa gives you multiple control options while keeping the Hydra Chip as the tuning device.
Bluetooth, CTS3, and Bypass Mode
Bluetooth App Control
Use the Medusa app on a compatible phone or tablet to change Hydra tune positions wirelessly. This mode does not require an Edge CTS3 and is ideal for customers who want simple app-based control.
CTS3 Control
When connected to an updated and patched Edge CTS3, Medusa appears as a Power Level EAS Controller. You can use the CTS3 Power Level gauge to control Hydra tune positions from the dash.
Original Hydra Switch
The original Hydra Switch can remain connected through Medusa. This gives you a physical control option in addition to Bluetooth and CTS3 control.
Bypass Mode
Bypass Mode allows access to tunes outside the normal CTS3 control range, including Level 00, No Start, and levels above 6, using the original Hydra Switch. The Edge screen will not control the chip while in this state.
What Medusa Does Not Do
Does Not Tune Through the CTS3
Medusa does not convert the Edge CTS3 into a Hydra tuning device. All tuning, programming, and tune file changes are still handled through the PHP Hydra Chip system.
Bluetooth Controls Tune Position Only
The Medusa app is used for Hydra tune position control. It does not replace Hydra tuning software or change the tune files stored on the chip.
CTS3 Is Optional for Bluetooth Use
A CTS3 is only needed if you want Edge touchscreen control. Bluetooth control works independently through the Medusa app.
Limitations to Know
6-Level Cap via Edge Screen
The Edge CTS3 interface is limited to 6 power levels. If your Hydra Chip is programmed with more than 6 levels, levels 7 and above are only accessible through Bypass Mode using the original Hydra Switch.
Sync Delay After CTS3 Reboot
Every time the Edge CTS3 restarts, Power Level may display as 0. This is cosmetic — press up or down once to re-sync the display to the actual active tune. The Hydra Chip itself is unaffected.
Special Tune Access
Level 00, No Start, and tunes above level 6 cannot be selected through the Edge screen in Normal Mode. Bypass Mode is required, and your original Hydra Switch must be connected to Medusa to use it.
